EDITORIAL: Random Thought on Austin Butler's Character

EDITORIAL: Who is Austin Butler Really Playing?

The CW’s Arrow recently cast Carrie Diaries alum Austin Butler in the recurring role of Chase, a charismatic DJ whose talent and wiles will catch the attention of Oliver’s sister Thea. That was then...but rarely do "known" actors get cast randomly for a reoccurring role...who isn't a comic character. So lets take a look as to who he could be...assuming Chase isn't his real name on the show...(or it could be a place holder prior to the characters reveal). This is me purely guessing...but it would be a very cool concept.

EDITORIAL: Who is Thea Dearden Queen/Merlyn?

When Thea Queen was introduced, it immediately became clear to me that we would see the second version of Speedy, Mia Dearden. Further proof of this soon came when we learned that Thea's full name was Thea Dearden Queen. However, since then, we have seen her draw elements from various characters which include the likes of Cheshire, Mia Dearden, Artemis Crook (Young Justice Version), and Arrowette. This leads me to believe we will actually see one of two things:

With the death of you know who, we all saw this one coming...the question is what purpose does she serve?...We know from the synopsis (read here/or below) that she ends up revealing to Oliver that Malcolm is alive, but some people think Arrow's biggest twist could be that Nyssa killed Sara (highlight to see).

New things to note include, the Ollie/Thea encounter, Laurel's scar (suggests training or need for it), and the Laurel/Nyssa encounter.

Although I highly doubt Oliver will break his no kill rule, if he ever did and he does kill Malcolm, it will not only destroy Thea, but drive her agenst the vigilante.

Looks like we will also get our first look at Matt Nable's Ra's Al Ghul...Maybe even get a Demon v. Devil showdown.

EDITORIAL: Tommy and Sara A Future? ... Or Nah...

Tommy and Sara A Future? ... Or Nah...

A common theory/hope that I see around the web is the hope that either Tommy or Sara (who literally just died) will return.

Personally I wouldn’t mind if they returned, I would much prefer that they stay dead. Not only have their/will their deaths pushed for HUGE character evolutions, but those evolutions wouldn’t be slightly negated by their returns. i.e. Laurel’s evolution into (Black) Canary, Oliver’s no kill rule, Oliver’s emotional change, etc. Although arguably their respective returns could bring on more change, it brings more harm then its worth (see below).

On top of this, the largest complaint about Marvel’s MCU is that characters don’t stay dead, and that detracts from the movies: Nick Fury, Loki, Coulson, and now recent theories/rumors that state Thor could die in Age of Ultron and wake up in Hel (one of the 9 realms). Lastly, Arrow seems to really be pushing for more comic characters who have backstory. Although Diggle and Felicity seem to fall into that bracket, they have recently been introduced, so their backstories (comic-wise) can still grow. Stay tuned for my predictions as to what will come in the future for them. Debatably, Sara is a take on Dinah Laurel Lance, in the sense that she was the first Canary, and has now passé on the mantle to Laurel, as Laurel’s mother typically does (that would be really strange on the show…Mrs. Lance/Drake in the Canary costume fighting crime). So this is my initial reasoning…And arguably Tommy has been introduced in the New 52...but his role is very very minor as of now and has yet to be touched on for quite awhile. However, taking that point into consideration or not, here are my further thoughts on the matter...

EDITORIAL: The Flash...Who Is Harrison Wells?

EDITORIAL: The Flash...Who Is Harrison Wells?

People say it is "obvious" that Wells is Reverse-Flash"...but considering the amount of people that still think he is someone else...and still think that Eddie is Reverse-Flash...I don't think its that obvious...

One important thing to note is the fact that everyone is saying if Wells is a time traveller...he came back to stop Barry from disappearing in the 2024 Crisis. Although this is possible...it is extremely unlikely given the time he is in. Why would Wells need to have a large part in Barry's origin?...Why would any of this need to occur if he was simply there to stop something from happening 10 years in the future? On top of that, for those who have read Crisis on Infinite Earths, although this is subject to change for the show, their is nothing in the past that would have stopped Barry from sacrificing himself to save everyone in the Crisis...

EDITORIAL: Arrow's Nice Batman Homage?

Many may contest that the CW's Arrow, especially in its first season, was more a "Bruce Wayne" show, then an "Oliver Queen" show. This is something that is surprisingly not very correct, there are only a few minor Batman parallels, but the rest is obvious in a realistic grounding of the show. However that is NOT the point of this editorial (that will be its own editorial entirely)...the point here is to express the thought that the CW's Arrow may pay homage to a scene we will never otherwise see on the big screen, and also why it may not go down the way you think.

One of the most common complaints I see and hear about Arrow is the line, "I hate Laurel (Lance)". When I ask people for their backing to this claim I typically get one of three answers, which I will analyze below, in order from how often I tend to hear each:
1) She is to whiney/emotional
2) Sara
3) I don't like the actress

I will use my own writing and Facebook comments from logical people (commenting on my argument) to explain. Just figured this format would be new and different...just to change it up a little.

Ezra Miller is The Flash in the DCCU...

To start....people need to understand it is NOT THE CASTING OF EZRA MILLER THAT IS THE HUGE DEAL... its the general casting itself that has people, like myself mad....AGAIN...I'm sure he could do the role of the Flash justice... but this Twitter user said it best ."Grant Gustin is no perfect Flash either. (yet) But he fits within the universe he's in. In the DCCU you got monsters like Cavill and Affleck."

THEORY: A Reverse Flash Theory To Satisfy the Masses

Today saw the leak of the first set photos featuring Reverse-Flash, based on the look of the stuntman it is definitely possible that Eddie is Reverse-Flash...although as a TEMPORARY thing, personally I see the chances of this at about 50/50. I believe Harrison Wells is definitely the true Reverse Flash, but instead of revealing himself, he gives Eddie the suit and bestows with powers (somehow) just to mess with Barry AND to throw the fans off. It would see that Eddie Thawne could be Reverse-Flash beta, lose the powers and want something more...leading to an interesting Cobalt Blue introduction.

UPDATE: Although the above is still possible...Harrison Wells clearly will be the Reverse Flash at SOME point, more set photos from a different angle show the stuntman face does look a little elongated in the jaw area much like Harrison Wells' jaw (shown below the first four photos)

Easter Eggs & Key Points:

1) The Unfolding/Collapsable Bow - Marc Guggenheim, executive producer, told fans that we would see Oliver get new toys, some of which mentioned below, but also that "One of them (the new gadgets) is a new bow that looks identical to the old bow, but it does something that you've never seen before". Although technically we did see Oliver's bow collapse on Smallville, that WAS a crossbow, and Arrow's bow collapsing seems a lot cleaner and all around looks cooler, AND it collapses into the size of his palm (essentially). In the end we don't know if this the feature is what Guggenheim was talking about.

EDITORIAL: The Flash Guide to S01E01 With Spoilers

EDITORIAL: Guide to S01E01 With Spoilers

More Obvious Easter Eggs:

1) Carlos Valdes = Cisco Ramon = Vibe

Vibe's sonic powers enabled him to create shock waves of considerable strength. His power could shatter concrete or steel. His agility was above average (and he was a superb breakdancer). Under Batman's tutelage, Vibe became a more skilled combatant.

Vibe's reintroduction in 2013 has sought to establish him as a more powerful character. Part of this was redefining his powers as having to do with interdimensional physics. Justice League of America establishes that Vibe's sonic waves have the power to disrupt the Speed Force, making him one of few characters in the DC Universe who poses a serious threat to the Flash. For this reason, he is recruited into the JLA by Steve Trevor, which exists to guard against the threat of the main Justice League going rogue. In Justice League of America's Vibe #3, Amanda Waller says "Cisco Ramon might be one of the most powerful super-humans on the planet. He wields vibrational powers that could in theory shake the Earth apart. And he's the only person we know of who can find and track interdimensional breaches." He is also undetectable by security cameras.
